• Venezuela Maduro and the opposition start a new negotiation in Mexico

  • Opposition Nicolás Maduro frees Freddy Guevara and proposes that he attend the negotiation in Mexico

The Venezuelan opposition announced that it will participate in the

elections of governors and mayors on November 21

with unitary candidates, ending more than three years without competing in elections, considering that they lacked guarantees to be free and fair.

"Civil society, ordinary people, want representation, they want presence, they do not want us to continue leaving the gap for the government to continue taking everything," said

Henry Ramos Allup

, secretary general of Democratic Action, during a press conference the Tuesday afternoon.

Allup assured that the opposition will have

unitary candidates for all the states and municipalities of the country

, which will be registered with the card of the Democratic Unity Table (MUD), since the main opposition parties lost control of their cards on the orders of the Supreme Court, which operates under the orders of Nicolás Maduro, and handed them over to a false opposition.

The former president of Parliament said that, in addition to organizing electoral participation, the opposition should focus on reaching an agreement in the new negotiations with the Maduro regime that will be resumed on Friday in Mexico City, to improve electoral guarantees, eliminate disqualifications. policies to opposition leaders, and achieve free legislative and presidential elections. He trusted that the European Union will attend as an observer of the November elections.

"It has been said that the dictatorship does not come out with elections, those who believe that the exit is not electoral and who spend it imagining fictions, nobody prevents them from carrying them out (...) We hope that participation in the process will be suitable to regain our rights, "added Allup.

At the press conference there were

representatives of the main opposition parties

: Democratic Action, Un Nuevo Tiempo, Primero Justicia and Voluntad Popular, of the opposition leader Juan Guaidó, as well as minority parties. Guaidó, who has not publicly supported participation in the elections of governors and mayors, has insisted that the opposition must use the Mexican negotiation to achieve a comprehensive agreement that includes legislative and presidential elections.

"The political gesture of participating in elections again is worthy of applause,"

Maduro

said

after the opposition announcement on state television.

Representatives of the Maduro regime and the democratic opposition are expected to meet again on Friday in

Mexico City

, to begin discussing the points of the "memorandum of understanding" that they signed on August 13 to start the talks.

Former Vice President of Parliament

Freddy Guevara

, a member of Guaidó's party who was released from prison two weeks ago, opted for a

negotiated solution to the Venezuelan crisis

in Mexico.

"No force exits are planned, we have to look for something that goes far beyond the claim we had, which was a process of bankruptcy. The current reality forces us to adjust and adapt the political strategy that today is centered on a process of negotiation, "he said at a press conference.

Guevara assured that he is willing to contribute to the successful negotiation.

"This dynamic and this vicious circle has to stop, we have for years thinking that one of the parties, because we feel strong, can crush the other," he added.
