The Taliban, new masters of Afghanistan, marched triumphantly, Tuesday, August 31, in Kabul airport, accompanied by their men in special forces gear and waving their flag, after the departure of the last American soldiers.

Their spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, led a group of officials onto the tarmac, his generally impassive expression replaced this time with a broad smile.

And the Taliban special forces, known as "Badri 313", in immaculate beige shoes and vests over their camouflage uniforms, posed for photos, raising American rifles and waving their white flag.

The military withdrawal from the United States was completed 24 hours before the deadline set by US President Joe Biden, after two weeks of hasty, even chaotic evacuation operations, thus ending a twenty-year war between the first world power and the Taliban.
