A meeting takes place Tuesday between the different countries of the European Union to coordinate in the Afghan file and prevent it from generating a new migratory crisis like that of 2015. But the specter of a disunity of the Twenty-Seven on this subject hangs over Brussels.

DECRYPTION

While Tuesday is the last day for the American presence in Afghanistan, more than two weeks after the Taliban seizure of power, the Europeans are planning their side in the aftermath.

In Brussels, an extraordinary meeting of the interior ministers of the European Union takes place on Tuesday.

With the stated objective of anticipating a possible migratory influx.

The Twenty-Seven want to prepare everything "just in case", because they have in mind the great migratory wave of 2015. "We learned in pain, we will not make the same mistakes again", wants to believe a diplomat.

Money for keeping refugees in the region?

Moreover, the various EU countries agree on one thing: they want to do everything possible to ensure that the Afghans stay in the region.

The model is the agreement concluded with Turkey in 2016 for the Syrians.

Clearly, billions paid against keeping refugees on the soil of neighboring countries.

At the same time, Paris and Berlin will push on Tuesday for the resettlement in Europe of vulnerable refugees identified by the United Nations, in particular women and children, but on a voluntary basis.

The European Commission expects contributions by mid-September.

But Austria and some eastern countries do not want to take anyone.

The fear of "drafts"

The risk is therefore a new display of divisions on this sensitive migratory subject. Yet the Twenty-Seven are well aware that they must speak with one voice. Divergent messages "could create calls for air to such and such a country", already worries a European source.
