An emeritus professor in his 80s suddenly resigned when a student refused to wear a proper mask in a class at a university in the United States.

According to US Newsweek and other foreign media on the 28th local time, Irwin Bernstein, a professor of psychology at the University of Georgia, witnessed a female student entering the classroom without a mask during the second class of advanced psychology on the 24th.

Professor Bernstein announced the policy of 'No Mask No Class' and demanded that this girl wear a mask. The girl wore the mask to expose her nose after being handed the mask to another student.

When Professor Bernstein asked to wear the mask properly, the girl refused to wear it, saying it was "hard to breathe."

In response, Professor Bernstein said, "I am 88 years old and have type 2 diabetes. I could die if I get infected with Corona 19," and asked again to raise the mask up to the nose. But this time the girl refused to answer.

Angry, Professor Bernstein said, "Okay, I'll quit." He put the prepared material in his bag and left the classroom.

In an email sent to the University of Georgia Gazette, Professor Bernstein explained, "I enlisted in the Air Force and risked my life to fight for the country, but I didn't want to risk my life because of a student who refused to wear a mask. So I gave up my professorship."

Professor Bernstein's class, a required subject in the psychology department, was automatically canceled, and students had to hurry up and apply for another class.

One student said, "Many of the advanced psychology lectures are students who are about to graduate, but they are in a great shock because there are no required courses. Everyone is angry at the girl who refused to wear a mask."

The University of Georgia recommends, but does not mandate, the use of a mask. The university reported 447 positive cases of COVID-19 from the 19th of last month to the 28th of this month in local time.

This is a 'news pick'.
