30 August 2021 Trade unions substantially opposed to closing the applications for new hires in Ita NewCo, which will take over from Alitalia, on 6 September next and ask that the platform remain open. At the moment, 11,500 job applications have been received, of which only 15% from Alitalia.

This is what emerges in Rome at the headquarters of Italia Trasporti Aerei, the company that replaced Alitalia, in the meeting between the trade unions and company representatives. "We replied to the company that this is not good, because if you make an industrial plan that develops between now and 2025 you cannot block the platform on September 6", underlines the national secretary of

Filt Cgil

,

Fabrizio Cuscito

at the end of the first part of the meeting between the company and the trade unions. The company justifies this decision, he explains, "by the fact that there were so many questions" but, he notes, "if I am not mistaken about these questions, 30% of the pilots were former Alitalia, 22% former voting assistants, 10% staff of land. They justify themselves by explaining that so many questions have arrived and that they must evaluate them ". For Cuscito, however, it is "an operation that was done too hastily and too disorganized".

"Ita wants to temporarily close the applications to draw a line and proceed with the recruitment for the startup of the company. We ask that the platform remain open because we believe it is not useful to close it and then reopen it since the issue of staff is an evolving theme". Thus the national secretary of

Uilt

,

Ivan

Viglietti,

who nevertheless reiterated that at the moment "the distance between companies and trade unions remains considerable". The trade unionist then confirmed that at the time of the applications arrived (about 11,500), among those sent by Alitalia employees, 30% are pilots, 20% flight attendants and 10% ground.

Many trade unionists gathered in front of the Ita headquarters in Rome. "With these meetings" explains a trade unionist, "we try to understand what kind of contracts the Ita company wants to apply. The termination of the Ace-Airplane contract was a surprise, a wrong move to begin with". "From this meeting" says another, "we do not expect anything good, the premises are already to be rejected. Only fifty planes, thousands of layoffs. We should abandon this table from which nothing good comes". "We live in hope, the situation is dramatic" adds another, "We pass from a company with 10500 employees to one with 2500".

. "The recent events in relation to the increasingly critical situation of Alitalia in Extraordinary Administration, the process of the birth of Newco Ita, the definition of the industrial plan of the new national airline, the ongoing discussions with the European Union and more generally the context of dramatic crisis in the sector which is the cause of strong concerns on the employment front, require reflections and interventions by the Institutions, which the writers have repeatedly requested, and which can no longer be postponed ". In consideration of the "great social and occupational impact of the dispute which concerns about 10,500 direct workers plus related activities, the undersigned trade unions are requesting aurgent call for the continuation of discussions in the institutional setting in the presence of all the departments concerned ", concludes the text of the letter.

Alitalia: Anama, the future of air transport and the country will be at stake in the coming months

"The future of the air cargo sector and of Italy as the second largest manufacturer in Europe are at

stake

on the Ita (formerly Alitalia) and Cargo City Malpensa dossiers. , but the data ". This is how the president of

Anama

,

Alessandro Albertini

,

expresses

himself

, which wants to hear the voice of international shipping companies active in the air sector in this crucial phase for Alitalia and of the Italian cargo port, Milan Malpensa. "By air - explains Albertini - 2% in volume of goods exported outside the EU moves but in value and, therefore, in Italian turnover, these represent over 25% of goods handled from Italy. Furthermore, it is important to remember how transport, especially by air, is an effective indicator of the trend of our economy. "- continues Albertini - air freight transport must come out of the shadow in which it has been relegated for decades and become a strategic lever for the growth of our GDP, as is the case in France, the Netherlands and Germany. To achieve this, in addition to a national airline with cargo planes,it is also essential to make Malpensa airport a modern cargo airport, with adequate facilities in terms of technology and size, such as secure parking, a logistics hub and fast and efficient public and private services for goods.
