At the end of each summer, hundreds of thousands of cows are herded down from the summer pastures of the Swiss Alps.

The walk is part of a far-reaching tradition that has come to be known as the "Koparaden", and is a folk festival for many Swiss.

The long walk goes to winter enclosures at lower altitudes, but after a summer in the mountains, not all cows can handle the journey.

Farmers are therefore forced to resort to creative solutions to bring their animals home, including letting the cows fly helicopters.

"It could be that some pastures are difficult to reach by car, or that cows have been injured so that they are unable to walk," dairy farmer Jonas Arnold told Reuters.
