All of New Orleans in the southern United States has been without power since Hurricane Ida struck.

The hurricane, which was downgraded to a tropical storm, has now passed.

But before that, it had time to tear off a piece of the roof from the local hospital in Galliano, Louisiana.

About 400 millimeters of rain has fallen in the state in the last 24 hours, according to SVT's meteorologist Deana Bajic.

Southeast Louisiana is hardest hit.

- Strong winds have pushed the water towards the Louisiana coast, so-called storm surge.

It is exacerbated by the pressure in the hurricane and water levels are rising, says Bajic.

Deaths and unforeseen injuries

According to the state's governor John Bel Edwards, Ida has left behind flooded roads, rubbish and demolished power lines.

A person lost his life when his house was hit by a fallen tree.

But the exact consequences of Ida are not yet believed to have emerged.

Now the storm continues towards the Mississippi.

In the clip above, you can see how large pieces of the hospital roof fly off.
