One day after a US drone attack on a car loaded with explosives, rockets were fired again over Kabul on Monday morning.

AFP news agency employees heard the sound of bullets over the city.

According to residents at the airport, the missile defense system has been activated.

Smoke rose near the airport.

At first it was unclear where the rockets had landed and what their aim was.

The US was close to completing its final troop withdrawal from Afghanistan on Monday.

On Tuesday, the US armed forces leave the country in the Hindu Kush after 20 years.

With the withdrawal of the troops, the airlift ends too, in order to fly people out after the radical Islamic Taliban came to power two weeks ago.

Since August 15, about 114,000 people have been brought out of Afghanistan.

In the past few days, however, the risk of terrorist attacks had increased massively.

More than a hundred people were killed in a suicide bombing last week at the airport, including 13 US soldiers.

It was the most loss-making attack on US troops in Afghanistan in ten years.

It was only on Sunday that the US thwarted another attack on Kabul airport. According to the Pentagon, a US drone destroyed a car loaded with explosives.
