Recently, the Japanese government protested to the United States, dissatisfied that the US troops stationed in Japan discharged sewage containing organic fluorine compounds into the sewer without prior consent of the Japanese side.

Japan believes that organic fluorine compounds are harmful to human health.

The US stated that the discharged sewage has been treated and the content of related substances is lower than the Japanese standard.

Japan’s Environment Minister Shinjiro Koizumi told reporters on August 27: “Japan and the United States are negotiating disposal methods, including finding alternatives that do not discharge sewage but treat it in other ways. Nevertheless, the U.S. is still unilaterally making pollutant discharge actions. This is extremely regrettable. We strongly protest to the US side."

Japanese Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi held a press conference on the 27th to express dissatisfaction with the unauthorized discharge of pollution by the United States during the consultation process.
