Another terrorist attack before the withdrawal of US troops is "very likely" at Kabul Airport, according to President Joe Biden.

The situation is still "extremely dangerous and the threat of terrorist attacks on the airport remains high," said Biden on Saturday.

The military has been instructed to take all possible steps to protect the soldiers.

After a consultation with his security advisers and commanders, he said on Saturday afternoon (local time) that the military considered an attack in the next 24 to 36 hours to be very likely.

The US military is expected to withdraw from Afghanistan by Tuesday.

This will also end the mission to evacuate Western citizens and former Afghan employees and their families.

Further US air strikes announced

Dozens of people were killed in an attack on Thursday near the airport in Kabul, including 13 US soldiers.

The US military responded with an air strike in Nangarhar province - two high-ranking representatives of the local ISIS branch were killed.

After this retaliation, Joe Biden announced further air strikes. "This attack was not the last," said Biden on Saturday. With a view to the devastating attack in Kabul on Thursday, he added: "We will continue to hunt, capture and pay for everyone involved in this vicious attack." Any attack on US interests or the military will be retaliated he warned. "There will never be any doubt about that," he said.
