The work of the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership concluded, and the final statement said that the participants stressed the need to unify regional and international efforts in a manner that would positively reflect on the stability and security of the region.

The participants acknowledged that the region faces common challenges that require dealing with them on the basis of joint cooperation and mutual interests, and in accordance with the principles of good neighborliness, non-interference in the internal affairs of countries and respect for national sovereignty.

The participants renewed their support for the Iraqi government's efforts to strengthen state institutions and hold parliamentary elections, stressing their rejection of all types of terrorism and extremist ideology, according to the final statement.

The attendees also valued the efforts of the Iraqi government in the context of achieving economic reform, and stressed the need for continued cooperation in confronting the Corona virus pandemic.

It was agreed on the need to strengthen efforts with Iraq to deal with the challenges arising from climate change and global warming in accordance with the relevant international agreements.

In a press conference at the end of the conference, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein said that the final statement of the meeting touched on a number of issues, most of them related to support for Iraq, stressing that Baghdad was able to bring together countries that had great differences and problems.

Hussein added that Baghdad was able to open a space for joint action in the regional environment through dialogue instead of conflicts, stressing that the stability of Iraq means the stability of the regional environment and the entire region.

The Iraqi foreign minister indicated that the Baghdad meeting touched on many common files between the participating countries, stressing that the Saudi-Iranian meetings are continuing, and that there is a desire on both sides to reach positive results, and that Iraq was a mediator between different countries in the region and played an important diplomatic role.

For his part, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry spokesman told Al-Jazeera that all the delegations participating in the conference agreed on the need to avoid differences, adding that the conference witnessed in-depth dialogues between the participating countries.

Prior to that, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi renewed his country's position, rejecting Iraq as a springboard for aggression against its neighbors.

He added that there is no going back to the past and the futile wars with neighbors and friends, as he put it.

In a speech that opened the conference, Al-Kazemi said that terrorism and extremism pose a danger to everyone, stressing that eliminating terrorism requires confronting the conditions and environments that allow its growth.

Al-Kazemi also said that what unites the countries of the region is much greater than what divides them, asking for the support of the international community to hold the upcoming elections in his country.

For his part, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, announced his country's continued support for the Iraqi people in achieving their aspirations.

Sheikh Tamim stressed that Iraq is qualified to play an active role in establishing security and peace in the region, and said, "We appreciate the efforts made to establish security and stability in this country."

The Emir of Qatar expressed his confidence that Iraq is rediscovering its sources of strength, the most important of which is the Iraqi person.

Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah also renewed his country's commitment to supporting Iraq to overcome the difficulties facing its stability and security.

Al-Sabah stressed that the Arab region and the region will not enjoy stability and Iraq will miss it, calling for non-interference in its internal affairs.


Reject outside interference

In the same context, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said that his country rejects all interference in Iraq's affairs, and supports it in achieving stability, preserving its territorial integrity and restoring its role in the region.

Al-Sisi said that Iraq has faced the extremely negative effects of terrorism and wars that have brought suffering to it and neighboring countries, expressing his confidence in Iraq's success in meeting the upcoming elections.

In turn, King Abdullah II of Jordan affirmed that his country supports the Iraqi government's efforts in combating extremism and terrorism and rebuilding, and said that Iraq plays a central role in building bridges and promoting regional and international dialogue.

In the same context, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan affirmed his country's support for Iraq, and to work on everything that preserves its security and stability.

Bin Farhan also announced the Kingdom's support for Iraq's stability and territorial integrity, and said that his country continues to coordinate with Baghdad and countries in the region to combat extremism and terrorism.

For his part, French President Emmanuel Macron said that Iraq has suffered a lot because of wars and crises, stressing that Iraq will continue to support it in the fight against "terrorism."

Macron added that the region needs to coordinate its efforts and work together to fight "terrorism".

In a speech during the conference, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced that his country will continue to support Iraq, saying that its stability is vital to other countries in the region.

Cavusoglu stressed that Iraq should not be an arena for competition, but rather for cooperation and partnership, expressing Turkey's readiness to assist in the reconstruction of Iraq through the implementation of vital projects.

The Turkish minister said that there is no place for terrorism in the future of Iraq, declaring Ankara's rejection of any presence of the PKK on Iraqi soil.

As for Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Hussein Abdullahian, he expressed his country's support for Iraq's security, independence and territorial integrity.

Abdullahian said that Baghdad plays an important role in the region, and Iran was the first country in the region to recognize the new Iraq.

He added that Iraq was greatly affected by terrorism, and said that Iran was the first to help him in combating it, considering that the Americans will not bring security and peace to the peoples of the region.

The Iranian minister called on Iraq's neighbors to support its stability, and also called for achieving peace through dialogue between the countries of the region away from foreign interference, stressing that these interferences are the cause of instability in the region, and that there is a need for sustainable regional security.

And Iraqi sources said - before the conclusion of the Cooperation and Partnership Conference - that he would discuss files related to expanding economic partnerships, fighting terrorism, supporting reconstruction projects in Iraq, and expanding cooperation between it and neighboring countries.

It was also reported that the conference participants would discuss regional issues, including Yemen and Lebanon, targeting ships in the Gulf, and the developments in Afghanistan would impose themselves on the agenda of the conference.

Director of Al Jazeera's office, Walid Ibrahim, said that Baghdad believes that providing the appropriate atmosphere for the leaders and representatives of the participating countries to sit down may be the first step towards resolving crises in the region, and then finding solutions to them in the future, if not during this conference.
