The Pentagon said Friday that whatever the future conditions in Afghanistan, the United States will not have a military presence there after the evacuations are over.

At a press conference, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the United States still believes there are specific and credible threats to Kabul airport.

He added that there was no second explosion near the Baron Hotel in Kabul yesterday, and that the bombing near the airport was carried out by a suicide bomber, pointing out that comprehensive and accurate investigations were conducted in order to find out the circumstances of the accident.

And two double bombings in crowds in front of Kabul airport yesterday killed at least 170 people, including 13 American soldiers.

ways to help

A Pentagon spokesman confirmed that his government would find several ways to assist in the evacuation after August 31.

He also said that the United States would remain keen that Afghanistan's leaders be held accountable for their behavior, even after departure.

Kirby said the US government will work with the international community to ensure the best results for the Afghan people.
