The investigation from the Swedish Accident Investigation Board showed that the stability of the trusses had not been taken into account correctly when dimensioning the roof and that the roof structure had been modified in relation to the original design.

Kiruna municipality believes that the responsibility for the roof collapse is the building contractor's and therefore pursues a claim for damages.

May end up in court

- We have always considered that the responsibility for the roof collapse is the builder's and we expect to receive compensation either from the contractor's insurance company or from the contractor, says Gert Mörtvik, business strategist at Kiruna municipality.

The municipality has hired a representative who is conducting a damages process against the contractor, so the case can end up in court for a decision.

- It may very well end up in court, says Gert Mörtvik.

SVT has asked the building contractor how they view the compensation issue and the responsibility issue regarding the defects in the roof construction, they have chosen not to answer now but want to wait for a later opportunity.

It is not clear how the hall will be replaced

Tarfalahallen was a sports hall for, among other things, football, athletics and climbing, it was inaugurated in 2015 and cost just over fifty million kronor to build.

How the municipality will replace the hall is not decided.

The municipality is reviewing various alternatives such as rebuilding the hall or building it together with the nearby Rakethallen or building a roof over the existing Lombia football arena.

The municipality will make a decision on this later this autumn.
