August 27, 2021Saman disappears from Novellara (Reggio Emilia) on May 1, 2021. Four months have passed and, despite the intense searches of the body even among the Reggio Emilia greenhouses, there is no trace of her. The investigators, the carabinieri and the Reggio Emilia prosecutor's office have no doubts that she was killed. In this conviction they were strengthened by the decisive testimony of the youngest brother of the girl. The young man accused his uncle Danish. The man is on the run, along with three other suspects: another cousin, and the girl's two parents, who returned to Pakistan on May 1st. On May 21, a second cousin, Ikram Ijaz, currently in prison, was arrested in France.

The reunion

From the evidentiary incident statements emerge that describe the rawness and violence of what should have happened on the night of 30 April last. There was a meeting and there was talk of how to make Saman's corpse disappear by "tearing him to pieces". Among the statements of the little brother also that relating to a participant who intervenes in the meeting "I make small pieces and if you want to take me to Guastalla, we throw them there, because this is not good".

The role of the cousin

The Bologna Review Court proposed by the only cousin in prison was rejected and the reasons, just filed, are a further confirmation of the accusatory framework. According to the college, speaker president Andrea Santucci, it is likely that the two cousins participated with their uncle in the material execution of the crime. Despite what Ijaz said, there is evidence that he too participated in the preparatory phase and the excavation of a pit on April 29 and participating in the meeting on the 30th for the realization of a plan well aware of the young woman's fate. Furthermore, the judges argue, against Ijaz there is also another element "of very strong circumstantial value" and that is "the sudden flight abroad", of 6 May.

Motive

According to the court, the motive for the crime sinks "in a fearful synergy between religious precepts and the dictates of local tradition (which bind the members of the clan to a crude, blind and absolutely uncritical observance of the directive of femicide)". Factor, together with others, "peacefully emerging from the objective analysis of the overall conduct, which make the author or participant in such a crime a person of extreme danger, ultimately capable of anything".
