As soon as the family realized that the Taliban were about to take over Kabul, they desperately tried to rebook their airline tickets, but the airline that was still flying at the time had no vacancies.

- I have worked for the American army, staying in the country under Taliban rule would mean that I risk death, says Zabihullah Niazi.
