On Sunday, SVT Nyheter Sörmland reported that the Coast Guard's station in Oxelösund is threatened in the long run.

The situation is similar throughout the Coast Guard and it is nothing new for several of the politicians in Sweden's Riksdag.

"Balance between goals and means"

But the authority has long been left behind in terms of funding.

At the same time as, for example, the Swedish Customs and the Armed Forces have received increased funding, the Coast Guard has stood still, despite the fact that the need for personnel and materiel is increasing.

- It is a serious financial situation and there is an imbalance between goals and means for the Coast Guard, says Pål Jonsson.

Calls on the government

The Defense Committee is responsible for the proposals for decisions submitted to the Riksdag concerning, among others, the Coast Guard and Pål Jonsson now urges the government and the responsible minister Mikael Damberg (S) to listen to the alarm signals coming from the Coast Guard in connection with the upcoming autumn budget.

Minister of the Interior Mikael Damberg comments on the issue via his press secretary Mirjam Kontio:

"For questions about the Coast Guard's future funding, I refer to the forthcoming budget bill for 2022, which will be presented on 20 September."
