He was betrayed by the GPS of one of his trucks.

The man suspected of having clandestinely cut hundreds of trees in Ariège at the beginning of the year, disfiguring more than a dozen private properties in the town of Perles-et-Castelet, has just been arrested by the gendarmes of the Pamiers research brigade.

The arrest, announced in a press release by the public prosecutor of Foix Laurent Dumaine, took place on Monday and was followed by a long day in police custody.

A deposit to guarantee compensation for the 21 victims

Released but placed under judicial control, the forest operator was summoned on December 14 to the Foix criminal court to answer, as well as his company, for “thefts with serious damage and damage to the property of others”.

There will be 21 plaintiffs on the bench of civil parties.

The suspect's company was also placed under judicial supervision with, writes Laurent Dumaine, "the obligation to pay a large deposit within two months, in order, in particular, to guarantee compensation for the victims".

A second man, also arrested and taken into custody, was exonerated by the main suspect.
