The American Venus Williams, who benefited from an invitation, finally announced her withdrawal Wednesday due to an injury, for the US Open, the fourth Grand Slam lifting which begins Monday in New York.

"This is not the best news. I join Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer on the injured list. It's great, great, super disappointing," said the 41-year-old in a video broadcast on the social networks.

"I had problems with my leg all summer and I couldn't get over them. I did my best here in Chicago (where she was eliminated in the first round earlier in the week, editor's note ) but I couldn't solve the equation. This time I couldn't do a miracle, "she explained.

The oldest Williams, seven-time winner of Grand Slam tournaments (five times at Wimbledon, twice at the US Open) did not specify the nature of the physical problem which prevents her from taking part in the tournament and that she lagging behind Wimbledon.

"It's still going to be a big US Open. A big thank you to the American Tennis Federation for the wild card. I couldn't wait to be there, but it was not supposed to happen this year. I will be back!", A she concluded.
