A Palestinian died on Wednesday from injuries sustained five days earlier by Israeli army fire during clashes along the border fence separating the Gaza Strip from Israeli territory, authorities in the enclave said.

Ossama Khaled Daiah, 32, from the northern Jabalia refugee camp, died of his injuries, the health ministry of Hamas, the Islamist movement in power in the Gaza Strip, said in a statement.

Injured during a demonstration on Saturday

He was injured on Saturday on the sidelines of demonstrations near the barrier that separates Gaza, a micro-territory under Israeli blockade for nearly 15 years, from Israeli soil.

Forty other people, including a 13-year-old child, were also injured by Israeli fire.

And a member of the Israeli security forces, hit by gunfire from the Palestinian enclave, is still in critical condition.

Rally scheduled for Wednesday to protest Israeli occupation

Several factions are calling for a new rally on Wednesday near the border fence, at the end of the afternoon in the area of ​​Khan Younès (south), to protest against the blockade imposed by the Jewish state and the Israeli occupation in the West Bank and in East Jerusalem.

On Saturday, protesters were responding to a call by Hamas to mark the 52nd anniversary of the burning in Jerusalem of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam's third holiest site.

For more than a year from March 2018, weekly rallies had been held near the border fence to demand an end to the blockade and "the right of return" of Palestinians forced into exile during the creation of Israel. in 1948. About 350 Palestinians were killed by gunfire from Israeli soldiers.

Air raids

In the aftermath of Saturday's clashes, the Jewish state carried out airstrikes against Hamas' “four weapons and storage sites”.

Other strikes, which did not claim any casualties, took place overnight from Monday to Tuesday, in retaliation for the launching of incendiary balloons that caused bushfires on the Israeli side.

Israel and Islamist Hamas, two enemies, fought an 11-day lightning war in May, in which 260 Palestinians were killed by Israeli strikes, including fighters, according to local authorities.
