Whoever wants to traffic well checks his mount.

During the month of August, the gendarmes of the Somme benefited from a happy combination of circumstances which enabled them to seize protected animals.

On patrol on the A27 motorway, the soldiers of the motorized platoon of Abbeville noticed a broken down motorist, parked on the emergency lane.

Immediately, officials stopped to assist him.

A commendable gesture, of course, but one that the motorist will quickly regret.

Very far from home

While checking the vehicle, the soldiers discovered several boxes in the trunk.

Inside were 6 Hermann turtles, a species of land turtle also called the Maures tortoise, which is found more in the Massif des Maures, that of Esterel or in Corsica.

Endangered, this species is protected, banned from trade in France and its detention is highly regulated.

In short, the motorist was not at all in order on that side after verification by the gendarmes.

The turtles were seized and then entrusted to an animal protection association.

The man, himself, was imposed a customs fine of 300 euros.
