For the first time.. a woman as Governor of New York State

Kathy Hauckol is sworn in.

Kathy Hauckol was sworn in as New York's first female governor, promising to change the state's political climate and restore New Yorkers' confidence in their government.

Hokol took office on Tuesday morning following accusations of sexual harassment that prompted her predecessor, Andrew Cuomo, to resign.

Cuomo had said in his closing public statements on Monday that the government investigation that concluded that he sexually harassed women who worked with him was unfair.

Hockall, a Buffalo-born Democrat who turned 63 this week, becomes the 57th governor of the US state.
