24 August 2021The doctors who saved Christian Eriksen's life at Euro2020 and the captain of the Danish national team Simon Kjær receive the Uefa President's Award 2021. This was announced by UEFA in a note.

The award goes to all the people who saved Eriksen's life, suffering from cardiac arrest during the match between Denmark and Finland played at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen on 12 June.

Thanks to the promptness and experience of the medical staff, Eriksen was revived in the field and today is on the way to recovery.

The award also goes to Simon Kjær for his speed in helping Eriksen and for his leadership.

The Uefa president described the recipients of the award - which is a recognition of their extraordinary results, professional excellence and exemplary personal qualities - as "the true heroes of Euro 2020. For me it is a great honor to present them with the Uefa President's Award" . "This year, the President's Award transcends football - he commented -. It makes us remember, forever, that life is the most important thing and puts everything in perspective," he added. "I want to congratulate Christian Eriksen and his family as he continues his recovery."

Kjær stressed the unity and solidarity of Denmark in responding to the situation. "It is something we will remember for the rest of our lives - he declared -. The team reacted as a unit ... a real team; we did our best to get out of that situation and be as useful as possible". "When we are together, I try to lead the team both on and off the pitch, in all aspects of life - he added -. I think it is one of the greatest privileges I have had in my career." "I have known Christian for many years - added Kjær -. He has a great family and many friends and companions who love him. If he and his family are well, I am happy".
