Should Sweden's next prime minister be a woman?

Yes, some say.

Of course it was close a few years ago, but it did not go all the way, and the question is now relevant again.

- It is clear that there are quite a few in our district who think it is one of the most important parts, says chairman of Kronoberg's party district, Robert Olesen.

"Had felt fantastic"

Woman or man.

An unimportant difference according to some, while others think it is crucial.

In Gothenburg, the issue will be part of the internal discussion, says Mattias Jonsson, chairman of the Social Democrats in Gothenburg.

- It would have felt fantastic fun if we get a woman as party leader and maybe even prime minister, but then if that is what we land in after our internal discussion, it remains to be seen but it is definitely part of our discussion going forward.

But far from all districts see it as an absolute requirement that the next party leader be a woman.

- That would be fun.

But the most important thing is that he is a competent person with long experience in a similar position, says Åsa Westlund, chairman of Stockholm County's party district and member of parliament.

"Must be able to lead the country"

However, it is the inside that counts, it seems based on the answers that SVT Nyheter has collected.

Peter Kärnström, chairman of Gävleborg's party district, believes that two criteria are the most important.

- One is that you should be able to lead the country as prime minister, and the other is that you are firmly rooted in the popular movement and have a popular movement perspective in terms of party work.

Collect many thoughts and ideas, listen and have an internal party democracy.

Feeling the desire for the assignment will be a significant feeling for those who take on the assignment, believes Bodil Hansson, chairman of Västernorrland's party district.

- It is one of the toughest assignments you can take on, so it is important that you feel the desire and energy and joy and not just do it out of duty.

So far, no Social Democrat has openly said that he wants to take over as party leader when Stefan Löfven resigns in November.

Several top ministers refer to the Nomination Committee and say that their focus is on their respective assignments.
