Eritrean Foreign Ministry commented on US sanctions against the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces

According to AFP, the country's authorities have denied the US accusations.

"The Eritrean Foreign Ministry rejected the US decision to impose sanctions on the chief of its army," the agency writes.

Earlier, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on Voldejohannes.

The restrictions were imposed in connection with the general's involvement, according to the American authorities, "in serious human rights violations committed during the ongoing conflict in the Ethiopian state of Tigray."
