It is mainly the youngest children who can be severely affected by, for example, stomach illness, RS virus and other infectious diseases.

Therefore, Helena Åberg, chief physician with medical management responsibility at the children and adolescent clinic at Vrinnevis Hospital in Norrköping, wants to urge parents of young children to be extra careful.

- We see a tendency for, for example, RS virus to start coming, and it is very unusual in the summer.

We get RS virus every year, but it usually comes in the winter.

There are usually isolated cases during the summer, but now in recent weeks we have had four hospitalized babies, says Helena Åberg.

Same rules as before the pandemic

What advice would you give to parents of young children?

- Those who have small children under six months should think that the same rules actually applied before the pandemic, during the pandemic and after the pandemic.

That you do not spend time with infected people, that you maintain good hand hygiene and that you do not let the others outside the immediate family spend time with your infant.

Restraint in the first months

It is about being a little restrained during the baby's first six months, so that the baby can become a little bigger, a little stronger and have a better immune system, Helena Åberg explains.
