On August 20, the US government announced the imposing sanctions on various entities and individuals in Russia on the grounds of the Navaline incident and the "Beixi-2" natural gas pipeline project.

The US Treasury Department stated in a statement that on the first anniversary of the "poisoning" incident in Navariny, it imposed sanctions on nine individuals and two entities involved in the Navariny incident and Russia’s chemical weapons program. The objects are mostly related to the Russian Federal Security Service.

The US government said in March this year that Navariny was "poisoned" by Russia in August last year, and announced a series of sanctions against Russia on this ground.

The United States has long opposed the "Beixi-2" project, calling it a Russian geostrategic project, while Germany and Russia said the project is a commercial project.

The Russian government stated that the US obstruction of the "Beixi-2" project is intended to squeeze the share of the Russian energy market and attempt to sell more US natural gas to Europe at high prices.

In this regard, Russian ambassador to the United States Antonov stated that the new sanctions imposed by the United States on Russia show that Washington has no intention to implement the consensus reached by the Russian and American presidents.
