The alert lasted more than five hours.

The time it took for the authorities to negotiate with the man and he decides to surrender.

In his vehicle, the police say they did not find a bomb, but material that could be used in the manufacture of explosives was taken.

For now, the 50-year-old is known to be from North Carolina.

His motivations remain unclear.

But the vast security device quickly deployed has somewhat awakened memories of

the attack on the Capitol

last January.

And also the discovery the day before, in the district, of a car with a homemade bomb.

The barriers have since been removed, but security is still tightened around the building.

Because the intelligence services know it, the main threat today in the United States is the internal threat, in particular coming from the extreme right.

Recently published reports indicate that far-right forums are as active as they were in the days before the Capitol attack.

And according to a recent survey published by the Associated Press agency, 60% of Americans claim to be more afraid of domestic terrorism than terrorism from abroad.
