"The unilateral actions of the Americans against the project violate international law and contradict the principle of free market relations," the ambassador said in a message posted on the embassy's Facebook account.
According to him, such sanctions are an attempt "to gain competitive advantages for their fuel suppliers."
Antonov stressed that Washington initially did not want to allow an adequate development of Russia's energy cooperation with Europe.
