The White House in the United States has announced that President Biden has appointed Rahm Emanuel, the White House Chief of Staff under the Obama administration, as Ambassador to Japan.

After serving as a Democratic member of the House of Representatives and serving as the president's closest aide to the Obama administration in 2009, Emmanuel has been the mayor of Midwestern Chicago since 2011.

The post of US Ambassador to Japan has been vacant since former Ambassador Hagerty resigned in July as he ran for the Senate election.
