The fire in the Var, which left two dead and 24 injured according to the latest report, is still not under control.

With a cooler night and favorable weather this Thursday, the firefighters are resolutely optimistic about the evolution of the situation.

More than 7,000 hectares of forests, vines and scrubland were destroyed.

Almost 9,000 people spent a third night in reception centers.

Firefighters are now reasonably optimistic, as the fire did not progress through the night from Wednesday to Thursday, which was cooler than previous ones.

"The risk of recovery not ruled out"

The fire did not progress that night.

The wind has calmed down, the temperature has dropped and the air is more humid.

The firefighters, who fought all night, speak of a first phase of positive development.

"The weather conditions made it possible to spend a quieter night: the wind died down and the temperatures cooled," said Dominique Lain, mayor of Le Luc and president of the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service.

"The risk of recovery is not ruled out for the moment", tempers Florent Dossetti, the spokesperson for the firefighters of the Var.

"We are still waiting for an easterly, south-easterly wind and therefore we remain very vigilant on the announcements that we could make at the present time. Today, we will continue our actions on the outskirts of the fire to be able to avoid the progression of this one and contain it in the surface that it already has.We want to fix it today.

Eliminate all hot spots

For this, two Canadair resumed their rotations Thursday morning and they will be joined by two helicopters water bombers.

As on Wednesday, 1,200 firefighters are mobilized on the ground.

Their goal is to eliminate all the hot spots that could allow recoveries, in particular in the Plan de la Tour and Vidauban sectors.
