Today (19th) marks the 200th anniversary of the Myanmar military coup. As a result of our coverage, it has been confirmed that the Democratic People's Unity Government, which is facing the military, has recently appointed a special envoy to Korea.

According to an international human rights group, 1,006 civilians were killed by the military and police and 5,730 were detained.



It has been confirmed that the Democratic People's Unity Government, a democratic camp that resists the military, has appointed a special envoy centering on friendly countries.



The special envoy plays a de facto ambassadorial role, such as notifying the military's atrocities in detail and drawing diplomatic recognition from the international community.



After the Czech Republic and Australia, Yannai Thun was appointed as the third special envoy to Korea.



Special Envoy Yannai Thun, who came to Korea in 1992, has served as the president of the International Organizing Committee of the Alliance for Democracy and has dedicated himself to democracy in Myanmar.



In an exclusive interview with SBS, Special Envoy Yannai Thun said that the actual number of deaths and detainees is much higher than that of human rights groups.

He criticized that the military recently established a transitional government and predicted the 2023 general election as a trick to deceive the international community.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked the Myanmar military to temporarily suspend investment in Korean companies that can provide money.
