18 August 2021 The situation inside the Viterbese area where a rave party is taking place appears quite calm. While about fifty people continue to dance in front of the wall of loudspeakers set up, many others prefer to shelter from the sun or walk, perhaps near the lake of Mezzano, but without diving into the water. There are also those who are taking apart their things and are busy collecting the garbage, with whole bags of waste that have been filled and set aside, ready to be taken away.

Participants in the rave sleep in campers, caravans or tents. There are no unrest, while the presence of masks is practically nil and this is causing concern for a possible increase in infections from Covid-19.

The presence of many dogs is striking, a clear sign that more than someone has chosen to participate in the rave party accompanied by their pet. The area is manned from above by a helicopter of the Guardia di Finanza, while some patrols of the State Police are circulating along the perimeter. A fire brigade truck, on the other hand, is parked a few meters from the heart of the party.

Participants come from all over Europe and it is not uncommon to come across German, French, Polish, Spanish and Dutch license plates. Some boys speak of a second victim after the young drowned in the lake, but the news was not confirmed by either the carabinieri of Valentano or by the mayor of the Viterbo municipality, Stefano Bigiotti.

Giorgia Meloni's attack on Luciana Lamorgese

"The rave party in Mezzano (Viterbo) has been going on for five days, amidst drugs, alcohol and illegality. Although a 24-year-old is also dead, no one has yet intervened to clear the field. Lamorgese (Minister of the Interior), but where are you?" , writes on Fb Giorgia Meloni, president of Fratelli D'Italia.

Maurizio Gasparri of Forza Italy

invokes the surrender of the state to illegality: "I bitterly register the surrender of the state in the face of the rave party that goes on substantially undisturbed in Valentano near Viterbo. Local administrators have been crushed by this initiative which is causing serious damage to the territory. Moreover, drugs of various kinds are certainly circulating in the rave party and all this continues without any action that crushes an act that is clearly illegal and of unprecedented violence against a territory accustomed to living peacefully ".

Giulio Marini, Head of Tourism of Forza Italia in Lazio: "Unacceptable"

Also for Giulio Marini of Forza Italia he expressed the desire for immediate action: "What is happening in Valentano, with thousands of people amassed without any authorization in private land, without the owner's knowledge and without anyone intervening to restore the legality is not only unacceptable, it is even surreal ".

The National Association of Police Officers: "Intervention would be risky"

"Whoever today cries out to scandal and solicits forced interventions on the rave party of the Viterbo area should know that he is insisting on a solution where the possibility of having serious injuries or lethal events is a concrete probability. For this reason, our judgment on the work of the commissioner is absolutely positive and we address our solidarity and closeness to him ", said Girolamo Lacquaniti, spokeswoman for the National Association of Police Officers.

"We are aware - explains Lacquaniti - that the images of Viterbo appear to be a slap in the face of the situation we all live in, but, from a technical and operational point of view, it is right to underline that other solutions contain concrete risks of much worse damage". Furthermore, he adds, "the persuasion action of the Public Safety Authority has led, to date, to the removal from the area of about 1,500 subjects". "The private (non-public) land as well as being particularly large - underlines the spokesman of the ANFP - has been occupied by dozens of trucks and sees the presence of thousands of people. In addition, there is dry vegetation, which is easily flammable. In a scenario of this type theintervention would involve the use of force which should take into account the risks associated with the movement of heavy vehicles in the crowd. In addition, the use of tear gas is likely to trigger.
