According to M Sweden, thousands of public charging posts are missing in the country.

With around 250,000 rechargeable cars, the number of charging seats is at a critical level, with around 13,000 throughout the country.

"From bad to abysmal"

- Despite high climate policy ambitions, the availability to charge has gone from bad to abysmal in just a couple of years, neither society nor the industry seems to meet the challenge, says Caroline Drabe, CEO of M Sweden.

M Sveriges has compiled statistics from the industry organization PowerCircle, which thus shows that the number of public charging posts is not increasing fast enough.

With 250,000 rechargeable cars, 25,000 public charging posts are needed.

Just to cover today's needs, more than 10,000 new poles would need to be built.

Impact on the environment

In Kronoberg County, there are a total of 175 public charging posts, something that according to M Sweden does not reach an approved level in terms of how many rechargeable cars are in use.

The lack of charging posts can quickly have consequences - such as being forced to run the charging hybrid on petrol.

Then there is no climate benefit with the bonus money that the state invests in rechargeable cars.

- Enormous investments are required in the public charging network.

Rechargeable cars should not be an option only for those who live in their own house and can charge at home, in which case we as a society will never be able to opt out of fossil fuels, says Caroline Drabe.

Kalmar County is doing just fine

In Kalmar County, there are currently 304 public charging posts, and the county just meets the limit for 2021. But even here the expansion is slower than the purchases of new electric cars, and therefore the county risks ending up on the black list as early as next year.
