Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, who is currently in the Emirates, said on Wednesday evening that he was "in talks" to return to his country.

He said Sunday to have fled Afghanistan to avoid a "bloodbath", thus acknowledging the victory of the Taliban.

Former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday said he supported negotiations between the Taliban who took power in Kabul and former senior Afghan officials, adding that he was "in talks to return" to his country that he has fled this weekend to seek refuge in the United Arab Emirates.

"I support the government's initiative to negotiate with (the ex-vice president) Abdullah Abdullah and the former president Hamid Karzai (his predecessor, editor's note). I wish the success of this process," he said in a video message posted on Facebook, from the Emirates.
