August 17, 2021 The seasonally adjusted GDP of the EU grew by 1.9% in the second quarter of 2021, while in the Eurozone the increase was 2% compared to the previous quarter. This is highlighted by Eurostat's flash estimate.



In the first quarter of 2021, GDP decreased by 0.3% in the euro area and by 0.1% in the EU. Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the statistical office points out, seasonally adjusted GDP jumped by 13.6% in the euro area and by 13.2% in the EU after -1.3% in both zones in the previous quarter.



Leading the growth at the country level are Spain (+ 2.8%) and Italy (+ 2.7%).



Employment grows, in the second quarter + 0.5%


Employment recovering in the euro area and in the European Union. According to Eurostat's flash estimate, in the second quarter the number of employees increased by 0.5% in the euro area and by 0.6% in the EU compared to the previous quarter. In the first three months of the year, employment had recorded a decline of 0.2% in both the euro area and the EU. Compared to the same period in 2020, employment increased by 1.8% in both the Eurozone and the EU, after -1.8% and -1.6% respectively in the first quarter of 2021.
