After several weeks of offensive, the Taliban are now at the gates of Kabul, the Afghan capital on Sunday August 15, announced the Interior Ministry.

If they were ordered to stay on the edge of the capital, according to one of their spokespersons, insurgent fighters were seen by residents in the remote suburbs.

"The Islamic Emirate orders all its forces to wait at the gates of Kabul, not to try to enter the city," Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban, said on twitter.

"There are armed Taliban fighters in our neighborhood, but there is no fighting," a resident of a suburb east of the capital told AFP.
