The death toll from the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti in the Caribbean Sea is rapidly increasing.

Haiti's disaster authorities said the death toll from the earthquake that struck the day before on the 15th local time has risen to 724.

The number of injured has also reached 2,800, and there is concern that the number of casualties will continue to rise.

A magnitude 7.2 earthquake occurred in Haiti about 8:29 a.m. on the 14th, 13.5 km southeast of Petitrudnif.

It is located 125 km west of the capital, Port-au-Prince, and the depth of the epicenter is as shallow as 10 km, so strong vibrations were detected not only in Haiti but also in neighboring countries.

The next day, strong aftershocks of magnitude 4-5 continued.

Rescue authorities are searching for and rescuing survivors who were crushed by the collapsed building, but the road is blocked due to landslides caused by the earthquake, making it difficult to rescue them.

In 2010, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake occurred in Haiti, killing up to 300,000 people.
