Afghan President Ashraf Ghani

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani left the country after the Taliban entered the capital Kabul, Reuters reported.

According to Reuters, senior officials from the Afghan interior and foreign ministry confirmed the departure of Ghani on the 15th local time.

However, the destination has not yet been clearly identified.

A senior interior ministry official said Ghani had gone to Tajikistan, but a foreign ministry official said he did not know which country he went to.

Sputnik news agency reported that Ghani had departed for Tajikistan, where he would travel to a third country.

In a video posted on social media, the Afghan government's peace negotiator Abdullah Abdullah called Ghani a 'former president' and said, "He left the country with the people in this situation. God will hold him accountable, and the people will judge." criticized it.

Afghanistan's office declined to confirm or comment on reports of President Ghani's departure, citing security concerns.

With the Taliban nearing re-establishment in Afghanistan for the first time in 20 years, the Taliban representative said they were tracking President Ghani's destination.
