Find out about Merkel's pension after her departure from power

German media reported, quoting the Taxpayers Union Agency, that Chancellor Angela Merkel will receive about 15,000 euros a month as a pension after her departure from power.

According to the agency, "Merkel is entitled to a pension of 65% of the parliamentarian's salary (today it is about ten thousand euros), in addition to that she will receive another pension for her work as a consultant."

But according to media reports, "her predecessor, Gerhard Schroeder, who held this position for 7 years, earns about 6.5 thousand euros per month."

The agency notes that "since 1990, Merkel has been regularly elected to the Bundestag, worked in parallel with the government of Helmut Kohl, and then, after a short period in the opposition, took over the position of Federal Chancellor, which she spent 16 years."

The Bundestag elections will be held next September, after which a new government will be formed, while Merkel has not presented herself for the post of chancellor, but she has not yet revealed her plans for the future, hinting that she "can continue her career", according to "Novosti".

After leaving her job, Merkel is entitled to get her own office and hire assistants, a secretary and a driver at the state's expense.
