It is about one kilometer between Haparanda and Tornio Bird Road, and the distance takes about three minutes to drive.

But for ten days, until August 21, you can also go by boat between the cities.

- It's very good.

We have been waiting for this for several years.

There are perhaps many in the city of Tornio and Haparanda who have never been along the river by boat.

Then there is the opportunity to have a cup of coffee or a beer on the Finnish side and in Swedish you can buy snus, says Erkki Hanhirova.

Hope the project gives rings on the water

It is through the project "Two Countries - One Destination" that Haparanda municipality and Tornio are seeing what opportunities there are to run tour traffic across the Torne River.

- Now we really want to test this and see if it is something we can invest in in the future, says project manager Eeva Skybäck.

Staffan nobs the boat: "Has something else to do"

But one who will not use the boat traffic is Haparanda resident Staffan Waltare.

- I have other things to do than go boating such a short distance.

I will take the car, but for some tourists it may be interesting, he says.
