At his wife's request, three civil society organizations signed a statement calling for his detention conditions to be reviewed. AfricaJom Center, the Raddho and the Forum of the litigant highlight his age and the health context linked to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A request that does not delight the victims. During the years when Hissène Habré was in power, Clément Abaïfouta spent four years behind bars. Today representative of the association of victims of Hissène Habré, he understands that the former president needs to be vaccinated, but wants this to be done in prison because he does not understand why this particular prisoner would be entitled to preferential treatment. “

I am stunned, I am very disappointed because we are not talking about the victims. When we were in prison, there were people who were over 70 years old. Has Hissène Habré deigned to have a grain of humanism or a favor so that these people are released?

Alioune Tine, founder of the Think Tank AfricaJom Center, who signed the petition, pleads for the health of the former president to be preserved: “

The prison administration must take all the necessary steps to see how we can protect life and the health of detainee Hissène Habré.

This is a provisional adjustment in relation to the epidemic which has absolutely nothing to do with

a total release of Hissène Habré

"

A request which, according to Alioune Tine, does not betray the battles that his organization has led for the issue of the rights of detainees.
