A 27-year-old man was shot dead Thursday evening as he returned home to a district of Martigues (Bouches-du-Rhône), the Aix-en-Provence prosecutor said on Friday.
The victim had just gotten out of his car to go home when a man appeared and shot him several times in the head, a police source said.
The man who was known to be involved in drugs died on the spot.
The author fled.
The facts took place in Martigues, a city located about forty kilometers from Marseille, on the central square of the Grès district, a usually quiet housing complex comprising small four-storey buildings.
The investigation was handed over to the federal police.
