Government agencies in the northern emirates have taken new preventive measures to reduce the incidence of drownings on their shores. Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and the Eastern Province have witnessed three deaths, and four drowning cases, since the beginning of this year.

The measures included the closure of Al-Bayt Mutahid Beach in Umm Al Quwain in cases of sea disturbance, as well as the provision of 34 lifeguards on its shores by the Khorfakkan Municipality, and the intention of the Public Services Department in Ras Al Khaimah to provide lifeguards and towers on its shores.

Lifeguards at Al Hamriya Beach sounded an alarm along the beach using four-wheel drive vehicles, urging beachgoers not to go into the sea after sunset.

The municipality of Khorfakkan stated that it had completed the second phase of providing rescue services and enhancing security and safety measures on the beaches of Khorfakkan and Al Zubarah, by distributing 34 qualified lifeguards, equipped with the tools and equipment necessary to practice their work, and immediately dealing with any emergency cases or injuries that might occur on the beach, with 25 lifeguards per Extension of the swimming area at Khorfakkan Beach, and nine lifeguards at Al Zubarah Beach.

He added, "The areas in which part of the beach is closed for maintenance work or the presence of works under construction poses a great danger to everyone who goes into the sea, even those who can swim, given the psychological trauma that occurs to him when he is surprised by deep holes and large rocks under the water, which makes him He feels that he is unable to save himself,” noting that “the possibility of children and beginners in swimming drowning, if they enter such areas, is very large.”

He stressed that the rescue operation must be carried out by a trained and professional person, who has the right foundations for that, so that he is not doomed to drown, adding that people on the shore should seek immediate assistance from the responsible authorities in case they see someone drowning.
