The ministers of Health Olivier Véran and Overseas Sébastien Lecornu were this Thursday, August 12 at the CHU of Fort-de-France.

The largest hospital in Martinique is totally overwhelmed by the wave of patients sick with Covid-19.

It is 10:00 a.m.

A patient arrives in respiratory distress, he is immediately intubated.

"

We realize that with this type of patient, things can go very quickly,"

explains the doctor.

In less than an hour, the patient can be dead or intubated while in intensive care.

That's what happened.

"

In every nook and cranny, haggard, lying patients.

Doctor Yannick Brouste, head of emergencies, must push the walls.

“

This is something that we very rarely see.

That is, on the board there are more than 50 people.

 "

Every day in this hospital, 10 patients die from Covid-19.

This woman remains under observation.

"

It had been a week since I had the Covid-19 at home, and then I felt that I could no longer breathe and since then I have been hospitalized,

 " she says.

When asked if she was afraid of dying, she nods, sobbing.

Dazed, solicited by several patients, this caregiver is on the verge of tears: “

We are not used to such

situations

and we would like to get out of them as quickly as possible before exhaustion

.

So

go get all the shots before it gets hot.

"

Doctor Brouste takes stock of the situation: “

In intensive care, zero vaccinated patients, and in terms of deceased patients, we have no deceased patient who was vaccinated.

"An assessment which, he hopes, will convince the population to be vaccinated.
