It is expected that the Taliban would try to regain power on the day the United States leaves the country, but that they will not face tougher resistance is unexpected, he said.

The United States and NATO have been there for 20 years and much of the time has been spent training the Afghan army, but they are weak and not very motivated.

- The Taliban are very numerous, over 100,000 perhaps, combative, fanatical and cooperate with foreign jihadists, al-Qaeda for example.
