The Syrian regime's bombing caused the death of a girl in the western countryside of Aleppo, and Russian warplanes continued to launch raids on the city of Idlib, while the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) called for the protection of children due to the escalation of violence, while the opposition confronted the regime's attempt to storm the city of Daraa.

Today, Tuesday, Al-Jazeera correspondent in Syria reported that a girl was killed and several civilians were wounded in the regime's shelling with artillery shells on the village of Tadel in the western countryside of Aleppo.

For two months now, Idlib governorate and its environs have witnessed an escalation by the regime forces, despite the ceasefire agreed between Russia and Turkey in the northwestern region of Syria.

The armed Syrian opposition said that Russian warplanes launched raids on the Sheikh Bahr area, west of Idlib city, for the second day in a row, and there were no reports of civilian casualties.

Syrian media reported that the Russian aerial bombardment was carried out with vacuum missiles, and journalists published on social media platforms a video clip documenting the bombing that targeted the vicinity of Sheikh Bahr area.

So far, Russian warplanes have targeted 6 raids with vacuum missiles around the town of Sheikh Bahr in the western Idlib countryside.

Russian warplanes are still flying over the region.

Yesterday, artillery shelling by the Syrian regime killed a civilian and wounded others in the town of Ain Larouz in Jabal al-Zawiya, south of Idlib province. Al-Jazeera correspondent Milad Fadl stated that the two-month bombing on Jabal al-Zawiya caused the displacement of about 4,000 people.

The local "Response Coordinators" organization had confirmed the killing of 65 civilians in shelling carried out by the regime forces during the past few weeks in southern Idlib governorate, in addition to the displacement of more than 4,000 civilians.

UNICEF

In a related context, UNICEF said that at least 45 children have been killed in northern Syria since the beginning of last July due to the ongoing escalation of violence.

In a statement published today, Bertrand Bainville, Deputy Regional Director of UNICEF in the Middle East and North Africa, said that 4 children from the same family were killed a few days ago in an attack on the town of Qastoun in Hama, northern Syria, and UNICEF pointed out that the killing of children in Syria has become not exceptional after 10 years of conflict.

The United Nations stressed that nothing justifies the killing of children, calling on all parties to the conflict to protect them at all times.

Siege of Daraa

In southern Syria, clashes erupted between the opposition forces and the Syrian regime forces and others loyal to it on the outskirts of the besieged neighborhoods in the city of Daraa, after those neighborhoods were bombed at night, according to local sources.

The sources confirmed that the humanitarian situation has worsened in the besieged neighborhoods, in light of the interruption of water, electricity and basic foodstuffs, as the regime forces have imposed a suffocating siege on these residential neighborhoods for a month and a half.
