With a birth weight equivalent to the size of an apple, the world’s "smallest baby" was finally discharged from hospital

[Global Times Comprehensive Report] Guo Yuxuan, the world’s "smallest baby" weighing only 212 grams at birth, was finally discharged from the National University of Singapore Hospital last month.

According to the British "Mirror" report on the 9th, after 13 months of treatment, Guo Yuxuan, whose birth weight is equivalent to the size of an apple and a length of about 23 cm, is currently in good physical condition and weighed 6.3 kg at the time of discharge.

According to reports, Guo Yuxuan's mother was diagnosed with preeclampsia when she was pregnant and had to undergo a caesarean section 4 months in advance to give birth to a child, otherwise the disease would be fatal to both the mother and the child.

Guo Yuxuan’s thigh was only as thick as an adult’s finger when she was born. Her body was very weak and her lungs were not fully developed. She had to use a ventilator to maintain her breathing. Even doctors believed that her “survival opportunities were limited”.

Fortunately, after multiple rounds of treatment and the careful attention of medical staff, the world’s "smallest baby" survived and has been discharged home from the hospital.

Due to chronic lung disease, 14-month-old Guo Yuxuan also relies on a ventilator to provide oxygen at home, but the doctor said that Guo Yuxuan's condition will get better and better.

It is reported that Guo Yuxuan’s treatment cost is as high as 890,000 yuan. In order to cope with the long-term treatment in the future, her parents have crowdfunded more than 1.7 million yuan in medical expenses (Luo Xi)
