The construction of the over 200 meter long footbridge over the railway in Östersund has dragged on.

In 2019, the Swedish Transport Administration suspended the procurement of the bridge after far too high tenders.

The procurement was then redone with a cheaper and simpler design.

When Svevia was awarded the contract in the autumn of 2020, the decision was appealed by Peab, both to the Administrative Court and the Court of Appeal.

After an examination, the Swedish Transport Administration in the spring of 2021 was given the right to contract Svevia for the construction.

Will be ready in the autumn of 2022

On Monday, Svevia's staff arrived on site to start construction.

It is initially a matter of building bridge supports on both sides of the railway, in order to lift the bridge itself into place sometime next summer.

Construction will be completely completed in late autumn 2022.

- The bridge will be made of ordinary painted steel, except for the part over the railway tracks themselves which will be in stainless steel.

It will first be assembled and then lifted into place with a crane.

That's what Jörgen Forslund, who is Svevia's site manager, says.
