Civil protection services in Algeria announced today, Tuesday, that the death toll from the fires in the state of Tizi Ouzou (150 km east of the capital) has risen to seven, and two serious injuries.

The Civil Protection said in a statement, reported by state radio, that it is continuing its efforts to extinguish 19 simultaneous fires in 14 states.

The radio reported that some houses had turned to ashes, noting that three suspects had been arrested for setting fire to a forest in the state of Medea, 80 km west of the capital.

On Monday, the civil protection services revealed that their teams were working to put out 31 fires.

Forest fires spread in the east of the country and in a number of western states, and come after a series of fires in the country at the beginning of the summer.
