“I am appointing Amos Hochstein as Senior State Department Energy Security Advisor, thus underscoring the US administration's commitment to ensuring the energy security of the United States and our allies and partners.

Its immediate task will be to take measures aimed at reducing the risks posed by the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, Blinken said in a statement.

He added that the appointment demonstrates the administration's determination to "use energy diplomacy" to secure supply and counter "the Kremlin's efforts to use energy as a geopolitical weapon."

The Axios portal reported that Hochstein is the main opposite of the Nord Stream 2 project.

In April, the Politico newspaper, citing sources, reported that the White House is discussing a possible candidacy for a special representative in negotiations to end the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

Amos Hochstein, a former special envoy of the State Department for international energy issues, was considered among the possible candidates.

As noted in the Kremlin, such special envoys for the project, which has nothing to do with the United States and is generally located on another continent, speak eloquently about what is called "interference in internal affairs."
